Toros Sí, Toros No: Spanish Attitudes Toward the Bullfight

This paper presents the results of several opinion polls that attempt to measure the Spanish public's attitudes toward the bullfight. One of the surveys, longitudinal in nature, reports a general decline in interest in bullfighting over the last 35 years, albeit with important differences among demographic groups based on age, sex, and geographical location. The current study discusses these results within the context of a larger "Spanish national identity" and makes some tentative predictions about the future of the corrida in Spain.
