Development and accreditation of an undergraduate public health program Presentation uri icon

  • This session will introduce participants to undergraduate professional preparation in Public Health and describe the new accreditation process for undergraduate Public Health programs. Emphasis will be placed on reasons for undergraduate programs to pursue accreditation. Authors will explain how and why the University of North Carolina Wilmington evolved from a Community Health Education program to a Public Health Studies program with a Health Education Concentration. Detailed information will be provided describing the process UNCW followed in becoming one of the first free-standing undergraduate public health programs in the U.S. to seek accreditation via the Council for Education in Public Health's (CEPHs)accreditation process. The presentation will also describe how UNCW's becoming the public health training center in North Carolina has impacted the undergraduate professional preparation program.
