Abstract
- Motility in bacteria is commonly powered by the flagellum, which utilizes rotations to propel the cell through the environment. This method is effective for cells typically submerged in an aqueous environment, but not for cells surviving on a thin aqueous layer (1). Other methods of motility include twitching and gliding. The latter is utilized by Flavobacterium johnsoniae in order to maneuver through their environment (2). My research will evaluate the role of cAMP on gliding motility in F. johnsoniae and we are requesting $283.00 to support our work.
