28 Residue Analysis of Residues from Deer Run, Lover’s Leap, and Quenneville-Offlimits #1 Sites Report uri icon

Abstract

  • Three visible residue samples and nine absorbed residue samples were submitted for analysis from three sites in Connecticut and upstate New York. The visible residues did not contain sufficient lipid for interpretation. Absorbed residues from the Deer Run site included two interpreted as containing primarily plant components, two as a mixture of plant and possible fish components, and one containing primarily meat components. The residues from the Lover’s Leap site seemed to originate primarily from plant processing; two seemed to come from different pieces of the same vessel. The single sample from Quenneville-Offlimits #1, a visible residue from a pipe fragment, was unfortunately not interpretable. Absorbed residue studies with unlabeled sherds from these sites might be worthwhile in future research projects.
